The Monarch Caterpillar, the larval stage of the Monarch Butterfly, is easily recognized by its distinctive black, white, and yellow striped pattern. During this stage, the caterpillar feeds voraciously on milkweed, which provides essential nutrients and toxins that make it distasteful to predators. As it grows, the caterpillar will eventually enter the pupal stage, transforming into a chrysalis before emerging as an adult butterfly.
